R182 Owner Todd Fuller advised good results after 1-1/2 years of service with electroair's Electronic Ignition system including easier starts, variable spark ignition benefits, slightly cooler CHTs and no more dual magneto to maintain or worry about.

Re: electroair Electronic Ignition replacement for 0540-J3C5D Dual magneto
Thank you Scott! I will be glad to answer further questions in detail! Since I had my system operational May 2023, since then, Electroair has made two additional improvements. The gears inside the MTH (magneto timing housing) have been improved; some gears showed minor wear and this issue was caught and corrected early. In the same shipment, the controller was returned and another no-cost improvement was made; improving the timing (by software) to ensure CHT's were running cool, and, potentially improve fuel economy. On CHT's, some operators reported having high CHT's before the improvement. I had elevated CHT's but nothing I would say was alarming; perhaps because my baffles and baffle seals are well maintained. However, with the dual EIS and IBBS the spark burns so efficient and hot it is my opinion imperative to have good baffles and baffle seals whereas with the old D mag system it is not as difficult to get away with sub-par maintenance on the baffles/seals. After my system's controller software was modified, since then, I never see a CHT above ~390 even with cowl flaps closed in climb, and usually < 390 regardless of flight parameter.

Thanks for the additional details Todd. We're looking forward to having a Zoom discussion so you
can educate us further on the electroair system.

Todd, I look forward to the Zoom call and learning more about Electroair's changes to your controllers. After sorting out several issues, we're finally using our aircraft, and we are running much hotter than you are. Baffles are 100% new, and we have addressed some possible induction leaks. Much of our original installation had to be reworked, with several parts replaced by Electroair. Did they send you a timing advance curve for the latest setting you received that you can share?
Re: electroair Electronic Ignition replacement for 0540-J3C5D Dual magneto
I just had Electroair do the standard 1 degree timing adjustment that they recommended when I had the MTH sent in to have the gears replaced with upgraded gear/gear teeth, it was easier to go ahead and send in the controller as well per their recommendation to adjust timing one degree to better improve CHT's although I never had major issues with CHT after installation. I assume your baffle *seals* are also well looked at, not just the baffles. Even a small hole the size of an eraser head in the seals can cause CHT's to rise quite a bit. I also use reinforced silicon for my baffle seals.
