Air intake duct seal material

After reading an article here about the many ways our R182 engine air system can be flawed. I started inspecting mine today.
First thing I noticed was that the seal that should be between the inlet duct on the left upper cowl and the air filter is MIA.
Hmmm. The part number in the IPC is S1047-3. When I looked at Cessna parts, the material is NLA, superseded with R881536. That's available from Cessna for about $4.50 a foot, with a minimum 8 foot order. I am okay with ordering 8 feet of seal material when I need less than half that, but I wonder if other owners/maintainers have discovered other ways to get this area sealed.
Thanks for advice!
