Manifold Pressure fluctuating

Post by NadW »

I’m hoping to poll the crowd for some help. The manifold pressure reading in my 1980 TR182 has been fluctuating ~2 in during normal cruise flight after a recent avionics upgrade. I don’t feel/hear any changes in the engine that make me think this is an actual engine power variation. And my mechanic can’t find anything wrong with the engine or MAP probe. Any thoughts on what could be causing this and how to fix? Possibly a configuration in the G3X? Any advice is much appreciated!

I have a video I tried to post, but the message board doesn’t seem to accept video files. If you know a work around let me know and I’ll upload.

Bad MAP transducer for the G3x?

What altitude is this happening at?

Thanks for the response. It happens at every altitude. Here’s a link to the video.

Forwarded this question to IA friend who owns F33A Bonanza with G3X installed. His reply:
Common problem. Well known. Add one of these - Pressure Snubber, Part# PS-8G.
From G3x install manual: “A restrictive or snubber fitting(not available from Garmin)
maybe be installed(between the hose and the sensor) to dampen manifold pressure fluctuations. One example is the PS-8G fitting from Omega Engineering.”

There is an attachment icon for videos - not sure why it's not working. Will look into it.

Thanks all. The snubber sounds promising. Will talk to my mechanic about it and let everyone know how things progress.

Update…

I had the snubber installed and that seemed to fix the issue. Thank you to all that responded!
