Gear Warning horn roller switch - keep clean

Post by scottrsellers »

On a recent flight we found our gear horn going off at 18”- 20”MP instead of the usual 14”. We found oil caked dirt on the roller portion of the switch so sprayed it with electrical contact cleaner after which it worked normally. Not surprising since in our IO540-K1G5 the switch is almost directly under the oil filter, so any leaked oil from a filter change could find its way into the switch and attract dirt.
Will be adding small can of contact cleaner to our travel tool kit.
