3 blade MT prop conversion from stock 3 blade
I tried replacing my factory three blade propeller with a 3 blade MT propeller for weight savings and for increased performance. It slowed the airplane down by 3 kn and the climb rate went down by 200 feet a minute. My degree of disappointment on that first takeoff with a new expensive prop was immeasurable. It only saved about 4 pounds of weight overall when taking into account the weight of the new spinner. In addition, it was a fairly difficult/time-consuming/expensive install per the mechanic. A 2 bladed MT prop might have increased the weight savings and possibly even the performance, but my mechanic wasn’t game to switch another prop on the airplane. On the upside, McFarlane Aviation was awesome to deal with. They basically said that for my particular plane it didn’t meet expected performance goals and they refunded my money. That’s definitely a company I would do business with in the future.

Chris - Surprised to hear about your disappointing MT prop results, but not surprised to learn McFarlane is great to deal with!
