Dynamic Prop balance report

Post by scottrsellers »

While flying our 300hp Air Plains conversion R182 last week Cessnar182.com co-founder Mike Pattison mentioned the noticeably smoother-than-normal feel of the engine. This is likely due to the 0.04 IPS balance solution provided by the Dyna Vibe system as performed by Dave Pasquale a couple years ago. See report attached.

The main landing gear legs had to be tied down during cruise power while doing the balance procedure, otherwise the main gear started to drag forward. Not sure if this was due to the 300hp or the smaller MLG tires but it is best practice for all R182s to tie down MLG legs during dynamic balancing.

Keep in mind dynamic balancing involves the entire rotating mass of the engine, prop, & accessories so when a change is made to any of these items re-balancing is needed to accommodate that change and maintain the balance condition - even if you cannot feel it in the cabin.
